Bluetooth Car Kit - Helping you drive safely and legally
A Bluetooth Car Kit can help you use your mobile phone in your car and not fall foul of the law.
In the UK, since 1 December 2003, it has been illegal to use a hand-held phone, or a similar device, whilst driving.
Latest News ..... The law has changed!! From 27 Februray 2007, the penalty for using a handheld phone whilst driving increased to £60 plus 3 penalty points
The potential court fine of up to £1000 remains.
If you need to hold the mobile phone, or device, at any point in the process then it is classed as hand-held (and this includes cradling the phone under your ear).
BUT, if your phone can be operated without handling it, by using a Bluetooth handsfree car kit, for example, then it is not covered by this regulation.
And the real advantage of a Bluetooth car kit system is that so many modern phones come with Bluetooth built in as standard. So if you have a Nokia, but your partner has a Sony Ericsson phone, providing both phones have Bluetooth enabled, they should both be compatible with your handsfree car kit. And if you change your phone, there is no need to change your Bluetooth car kit, as it should connect seamlessly with your new mobile
